Once-defunct British automaker TVR has released a teaser image of its upcoming supercar. The drawing is a “reworked version” of a rendering done by Autocar and only tells what the performance car will look like with other details not officially stated.
For those who simply cannot remember the Blackpool-based manufacturer, TVR was an independent British sportscar manufacturer. The company met its demise in 2006 under Russian ownership but it was purchased by a syndicate of British businessmen in 2013. Earlier this year it was announced that TVR would go back into production with its first new car set for 2017 launch. Although the deliveries won’t start before 2018, TVR has still managed to sell-out the 250-unit allocation for 2017. This new car is part of the company’s 10-year plan that will see it coming up with four new launches.
The new TVR will be designed by Gordon Murray and the powertrain will feature a Ford Mustang-derived 5.0-litre V8 engine tuned and tweaked by famed engine builder Cosworth. Mated to the engine will be a six-speed manual transmission driving the rear wheels. Elsewhere, the new TVR will do without any traditional electric safety features like traction control and will possibly even make do without ABS. When combined with a wet weight of around 1100 kg, it will be just as driver focused as TVRs of yesteryear.
